This book, and SVU #1 just proves Liz is a boring best friend. All her friends end up liking Jess better, or becoming like Jess. Ouch.

I’d also like to say that this was one of my favorite write ups. Picturing dorky Liz dressed up in her Mont Blanc ski outfit at a high school party just makes me laugh my ass off. And when Enid shows up in a ski outfit too?? Perfect!

Let me re-phrase (oops, need to focus when I get on the soap box):

I’m also a huge SVT fan and I was heartbroken that AMY (Amy, not Enid) had changed from being one of the most down-to-earth girls at Sweet Valley Middle School to this obnoxious, vacuous 16 yr-old. It made me angry enough to want to write my own SVT story about how Amy’s mother gets a job offer with a bigger TV network in San Francisco (all the big, bad terrible things happen in San Fran.) and how 12 yr-old Amy starts hanging around with the Unicorns at school and ignoring Elizabeth because she thinks that only by becoming an air-head at her new school will she ever be accepted as the new girl! Grr! Hence the beginning of the end. You guys, I LOVED Amy Sutton the way she was! She was so brave in #4 in the SVT series, Choosing Sides. Double-grr!

Enid has the worst hairstyle in Sweet Valley – the worst! Even Jessica’s odd little curly-cue fringe isn’t as bad as the halo of auburn curls perpetually clouding Enid’s face. We all love a nerd, but this is taking the joke too far! Aside from her looks, I like Enid and the fact that she drives Jessica crazy with jealousy by being Liz’s best friend. Yeah, in every book they talk about what great friends Liz and Enid are, but Enid is hardly ever in the books and when she is there’s always some kind of fight/argument/misunderstanding between them.

Yet another incident that makes me wonder why the writers insist that Elizabeth and Enid are best friends! Jess and Lila may be terrible people who spend as much time setting the other up for a downfall as they do actually enjoying the other’s company, but at least you feel like their relationship has a balance of power!
